BRISBANE, Dec 1 AAP - A police officer has been killed in a crash in central Queensland
while escorting a wide load.

The 33-year-old's police service motorcycle collided with a truck on the Bruce Highway,
just south of Mount Larcom, west of Gladstone, at about 7am (AEST).

The highway remains closed around the crash site, with traffic diversions in place.

Commissioner Bob Atkinson said the police service was mourning the loss of Sergeant
Dan Stiller, of the Oxley District Traffic Branch.

Mr Atkinson said Sgt Stiller had been escorting a wide load when the crash occurred,
and his death was a great loss.

"Sergeant Stiller was a dedicated traffic officer committed to the safety and security
of all Queenslanders," he said in a statement.

The incident is being investigated by the Forensic Crash Unit and overviewed by the
Ethical Standards Command.

Sgt Stiller was sworn in as a Queensland police officer on January 30, 2002. He previously
served with the NSW police.
